The Hidden Test of Honesty
Long ago, high above the skies, there lived two gods named Julius and Jedi. Zeus approached the two gods and told them that they had been chosen to compete in a challenge hosted in the heavens.
"The challenge will be based on a two events, and in the end whoever is the most successful will be the winner." Zeus explained.
"Oh, and also," he added, "whoever wins will be rewarded with a lifetimes supply of gold, and whoever loses will be forever cursed."
The two gods made their way to the castle located in the centre of Olympus, where they were greeted by Zeus along with hundreds of other gods who had come to watch the event. The first task was a relay through the clouds, which was exciting news to Julius because he was known for his speed and agility. Jedi on the other hand wasn't worried, because he knew a short cut that he would take in order to try and beat Julius to the other side.
"Three, two, one, GO." Zeus announced as he dropped a purple striped flag through the air.
Julius and Jedi both dashed into the clouds, an equal race until just past halfway, when Julius' speed started showing and he pulled ahead of Jedi. Jedi quickly made a jump over the boundary line and took a shortcut through the clouds. Julius was about to exit the clouds and make his way across the finish line, when all of a sudden Jedi flew infront of his eyes out of the side of the trail and pulled ahead and out of the clouds, winning the race.
Julius was so angry, but he didn't say anything about what Jedi had done. Zeus announced the second and last challenge which consisted of a dash across the Raindrop Ocean. When the race began, Julius and Jedi both paddled their hardest until they were far out of sight. Just then, Jedi pulled out something from his pocket, Julius was unsure of what the object was, but as soon as he looked away, Jedi struck Julius' boat with the object, thrashing a huge hole in it. Jedi paddled away quickly, which made him the winner of the race, leaving Julius far behind.
"And the winner of this years challenge and the receiver of a lifetime supply of gold is... JULIUS!" Zeus announced. Everyone, including Julius and Jedi themselves were in shock.
"But how could that be!?" Jedi demanded. "I won both of the challenges, I deserve the gold!"
Before Julius could say anything, Zeus explained, "Yes, but the real challenge of these two events was a test of honesty. Julius may have lost, but he lost fairly, and even though Jedi won, he cheated in both challenges, making Julis the real winner."
Personal Reflection
The significance of this piece of flash fiction, is to show the importance of honesty and the consequences that come with being dishonest. In the end, even though Julius lost both of the challenges, he played fair and showed true honesty, and with that he was rewarded. Jedi on the other hand, won the challenges, but he lied and cheated in both of them which lead him to being punished and cursed. This goes to show that lying will get you nowhere in life, and honesty will get you much further. The over all thematic focus of my tapestry is honesty, and through this story shows how good things can come from telling the truth.
