"A friend to honesty and a foe to crime"
-Allan Pinkerton
Born in Scotland, on August 25, 1918, Allan Pinkerton was a cooper or barrel-maker in his native land, He immigrated to the United States in 1942 and settled near Chicago, Illinois. He was an industrious man and quickly realized that working for himself would be a much better proposition for himself and family.
This quote is significant to my theme because it outlines what honesty is and how it is important. Telling the truth lets everyone know what really happened, which leads to less confusion, misunderstandings, or conflict. Honesty also protects innocent people from being blamed or punished. Being honest with yourself and others also allows you to feel secure and calm inside, instead of worrying about lying your way out of a situation or problem. Also, telling the truth right from the start often keeps you out of more trouble than lying and getting caught. Telling the truth, being fair, loyal, or genuine, also earns you a reputation for being honest, which is a trait that most people will value throughout their life.
